HELP CENTER>INTERIOR FILE REQUIREMENTS

Interior File Requirements

Your interior file must meet the following requirements to be approved.

File Format

  • Format: PDF only

Page Count

The PDF page count must match the page count you entered for the book. If your page count is an odd number, a blank page will be added automatically to make it even for printing.

If you change the page count of an existing book, save that change first, then upload a new interior file that matches it. See Changing Your Page Count.

Bleed

Bleed is the part of your design that runs past the trim edge, so that when the pages are cut there is no unprinted white strip. Add 0.125 inches of bleed on the three trimmed edges: top, bottom, and the outside edge. The spine edge gets no bleed, because that edge is bound rather than cut.

Which side is the outside edge alternates. On a right-hand page the spine is on the left, so the bleed goes on the right. On a left-hand page it is the other way round.

Fonts

All fonts must be embedded in the PDF. If fonts are not embedded, they may display or print incorrectly.

Page Size

Page dimensions must match your trim size plus the bleed on those three edges: one bleed added to the width and two to the height. For a 6x9 inch trim that is a 6.125 x 9.25 inch page.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • Page count does not match the book settings
  • Missing bleed
  • Wrong page dimensions for the selected trim size
  • Fonts not embedded
