Print Quality & Replacement Policy
v1 Effective Date: 07/14/2026
1. Overview
Every book we print is manufactured to order, so we do not accept returns and do not offer refunds as a general practice. We do stand behind our own work. If a book has a manufacturing defect, we reprint it at no charge. If a book is damaged in transit, we file a claim with the carrier and send a replacement. This policy explains what we cover, what we do not, and how to file a claim.
2. What We Cover
We replace, at no charge, any book with a genuine manufacturing defect. Covered defects include:
- Binding failures, such as pages falling out, glue failure, or the text block separating from the cover;
- The wrong interior bound into a cover, or the wrong cover on a text block;
- Trim, registration, or cover alignment outside the tolerance described in Section 3;
- Significant printing defects, such as large ink voids, banding, smearing, or missing print that is not present in your files;
- Incorrect materials or specifications compared with your confirmed order, such as the wrong paper, binding, or trim size.
These examples are not exhaustive. Other issues may arise that are not listed here, and we evaluate those case by case, in good faith and against the standards in this policy, to determine whether they are covered.
We also cover shipping damage. If your order arrives damaged in transit, we file a claim with the carrier and send a replacement.
3. Normal Variance
Commercial printing has tolerances, and some variation is normal. The following are expected and are not eligible for replacement:
- Alignment or trim shift within ±1/16" (2 mm) on trim, print position, and cover alignment;
- Color variation within commercial printing tolerance. This includes differences between your screen and the printed book, between a proof and the final run, and between one print run and a later reprint. We cannot guarantee that printed color will match your monitor;
- Minor cosmetic marks that do not affect a book's usability, such as light cover scratches, small ink spots, lamination smudges (often glue that wipes off), minor dents, occasional folded pages, lamination creases or scored hinges, and gutter read marks;
- Blank pages added by the production process, and temporary cover curl or wavy pages caused by humidity, which flatten as the book acclimates.
4. What We Do Not Cover
- File and content errors. We print your files as supplied. Anything already present in them, such as typos, layout problems, low-resolution images, a layer left visible, incorrect bleed, missing fonts, or color built in the wrong space, prints as it appears in the file. We are not responsible for the content, formatting, design, or appearance of your book.
- Approved proofs. If you approved a proof, whether digital or physical, you are responsible for anything visible in that proof. Approval is your confirmation that the file is correct.
- Post-delivery damage and wear. This includes broken or cracked spines from forcing a book open, folds, creases, tears, water or heat damage, and general handling wear after the book reaches you.
- Address errors and refused deliveries. Section 7 explains how we handle shipping problems that originate with the order or the recipient.
5. Filing a Claim
To file a claim, open the affected order in your order history and start a claim within 30 days of delivery. Please include:
- A close-up photo of the defect;
- Photos of the full front cover, full back cover, and spine;
- For a shipping-damage claim, photos of the shipping carton inside and out, including a clear photo of the shipping label.
Providing clear photos is typically the first step in helping your claim be resolved.
Claims made after 30 days may be reviewed at our discretion, but we cannot guarantee them. Once the 30-day window closes, we treat the order as accepted.
6. Our Remedy
- For a covered defect, we replace the affected copies at no charge. If only part of your order is affected, we replace those copies rather than the whole order.
- Replacements ship to the shipping address on your original order, whether as originally provided or later corrected, and by the same shipping method. We do not send replacements to a different address. If you would like your replacement shipped faster than the original shipping method, you are responsible for paying the upgraded shipping rate.
- Where we determine that a replacement is not practical, we may instead issue a refund for the affected copies, at our sole discretion.
- Replacement, or a refund at our discretion, is your only remedy for a defective order.
7. Shipping Issues
- Damaged in transit. Keep the shipping carton and all packing materials, because we cannot file a carrier claim without them. Send photos of the carton inside and out, a clear photo of the shipping label, and the damaged books. We then file a claim with the carrier and send a replacement.
- Lost or not delivered. If tracking shows no delivery seven days past the estimated delivery date, or a shipment sent by untracked mail has not arrived within twenty-one days, contact us and we will investigate and replace it as appropriate.
- Marked delivered but not received. Please first check with neighbors, household members, and any building or mail office, and confirm the address, before contacting us.
- Wrong or incomplete address. If the address on the order is wrong or incomplete, reshipment is a new, paid shipment. We cannot cover packages that are misdelivered because of an address error on the order.
- Refused delivery. Refused shipments are not refunded, and any return and reshipment costs are yours.
- Customs, duties, and taxes. On international orders these are the recipient's responsibility. If a shipment is returned because customs charges went unpaid, you are responsible for the resulting costs.
- Delivery estimates. Delivery times are estimates, not guarantees. We are not responsible for delays caused by carriers, customs, weather, or other events beyond our control.
8. Cancellations and Changes
You can cancel an order any time before it enters production. Once we begin printing, we can no longer cancel it, because the books are being manufactured to your order. If you have paid for an order and cancel it before production begins, we refund it in full.
9. Courtesy Accommodations
On occasion we may replace or refund something this policy does not strictly cover, as a one-time courtesy and at our sole discretion. A courtesy of this kind is not an admission that a claim was covered, and it does not set a precedent for future orders.
10. Your Legal Rights
Nothing in this policy limits any rights you have under applicable law that we are not permitted to exclude or restrict. Where those rights apply, they operate alongside this policy.
