Changing Your Page Count
You can change the page count on any book at any time, including a book that is already for sale. The new number has to stay within the minimum and maximum for your binding type. Page count is the one print specification that stays editable after you approve the digital preview.
What Happens When You Save
Your page count sets the print charge and the spine width on your cover, so the files you uploaded before no longer match the book. Saving the change resets your interior and cover files. You will upload both again, and they go through review before you approve a new digital preview.
If the book is for sale, saving the change also takes it off the store. It goes back up once you approve the new digital preview. We ask you to confirm this before the change is saved, so you are not caught out by it.
Do It in This Order
- 1. Change the page count on your book and click Save
- 2. Confirm the change when we ask
- 3. Upload a new interior file with exactly the new page count
- 4. Download a fresh cover template and upload a new cover
- 5. Wait for both files to be reviewed
- 6. Approve the new digital preview
Save before you upload anything. The upload buttons stay switched off until you do, because saving resets your files and would throw away whatever you uploaded first.
Your Interior File Has to Match Exactly
We count the pages in the PDF you upload and compare them to the page count on your book. If the two do not agree, the upload is rejected and we tell you both numbers. Usually that means the file was not the one you meant to send, or the page count on the book needs another look.
Don't Forget the Cover
A different page count means a different spine width, so your old cover will not fit. Download a new template from the Print Files tab after you save, and build the new cover on that.
Does This Cost Anything?
No. The $25 upload fee is charged once, when the book is created. Replacing files later goes through review without a new invoice.
