HELP CENTER>DUPLICATING A BOOK

Duplicating a Book

Duplicating a book creates a new copy with most of the same metadata but resets the distribution and file settings. This is useful when you want to release a new edition, reuse author/contributor information, or make significant changes that require a new ISBN.

How to Duplicate a Book

  • 1. Go to the Books page
  • 2. Find the book you want to duplicate
  • 3. Click the three-dot menu icon (⋮) on the book card
  • 4. Select "Duplicate Book"
  • 5. A new book will be created and you'll be taken to the Edit page

What Gets Copied

The following information is copied to the new book:

  • Description and keywords
  • Contributors (authors, editors, etc.)
  • Categories
  • Edition information, and the series name — with the new book placed at the next number in that series
  • Imprint and audience
  • Wholesale discount
  • Print specifications (trim, binding, paper, laminate, interior color)

What Doesn't Get Copied

The title, ISBN, page count and retail price all start empty — they belong to the individual book, not to the pattern you're copying. The two opening questions are asked fresh as well, so a duplicate isn't assumed to be sold in stores just because the book it came from was.

Can I Duplicate an Unpublished Book?

Yes. You can duplicate any book regardless of its publication status. If you unpublish a book, you can still duplicate it to create a new version with a new ISBN.

Workflow: Replace a Book with a Corrected Version

If you need to fix an error on a published book that requires a new ISBN or has locked metadata:

  • 1. Duplicate the book
  • 2. Make changes to the duplicate (new ISBN, updated files, etc.)
  • 3. Complete the full setup process for the duplicate
  • 4. Unpublish the original book once the new version is live
