HELP CENTER>ROYALTIES & PAYOUTS

Royalties & Payouts

Royalties are paid out monthly. When someone buys your book through our store, or a bookstore orders it from us, you earn a royalty on that sale.

When Payouts Happen

The payout run happens on the 1st of each month, and it covers the month that ended two months earlier. Your bank then takes its own time on top of that, usually a few days.

So sales made in March are paid out on May 1st. Sales made in April are paid out on June 1st.

The $10 Minimum

If your royalties for a month come to less than $10, we don't send a payout that month. The balance rolls over and goes out with the next month that clears $10, and we'll email you when that happens.

Seeing Your Sales

The Reports section of the portal shows your sales broken down by book, and you can filter it by year. Use it to reconcile what you were paid against what sold.

Why You Need Tax and Payment Details

Setting up your publisher record includes tax information and payment onboarding. You have to fill it out even if you never sell through us, because that same record is what names you as the publisher on your books.

If you're not a registered business, choose Individual rather than a business type. You don't need a company to print with us.

Direct, Store, and Bookstore Sales

The profit calculator shows three numbers:

  • Direct sales is your estimated profit when you buy copies at bulk pricing and sell them yourself. There's no royalty involved. Your profit is the difference between what you paid us and what you charge
  • Store sales is what you earn when a reader buys through our online bookstore
  • Bookstore sales is what you earn when a bookstore orders your book from us at your wholesale discount

If the Numbers Look Wrong

If your report and your payout don't line up, email us with the book and the period and we'll check it. Payout amounts are calculated from actual sales, so the money figure is the one to trust if the two disagree.
